Over twelve percent of undocumented folks in the United States are of Asian Pacific Islander (API) descent. Many stories of undocumented API youth go unspoken and are invisible in the mainstream discourse of undocumented immigrants. "Our Story" seeks to break this silence, start a discussion, and build a community within this often overlooked segment of the undocumented population.
Join Asian Pacific American Student Development (APASD) for screenings of "Halmoni" and "US."
"US" is a 10-minute short shot and directed by Seth Ronquillo. It offers a look at the struggles of an undocumented Pilipinx family and raises questions on the meaning of home and belonging.
"Halmoni" follows Ju Hong on his recent trip to South Korea through Advanced Parole. After thirteen years of separation, Ju reconnects with the grandmother who raised him.
The screenings will be followed by a Q&A with Ju Hong and the "Halmoni" filmmakers, Anna Oh and Scott Schwerdtfeger, and a group discussion. Food will be provided!
